Bio:
Karen Barnick Pfeifer is a devoted & renowned, oboe performer and teacher based in Central Ohio, having won the Columbus Symphony Music Educators Award in 2011, became the Board President of Opera Project Columbus for numerous years, and is a Faculty member of Chamber Music Connection and Co-chair of it’s scholarship committee.
She teaches at Ohio Wesleyan University and maintains a thriving private studio for students of all ages. Known for her supportive and inspiring teaching style, Karen helps each student build strong fundamentals, develop confidence, and discover their unique musical voice.
Karen’s teaching is built on a foundation of honest feedback, supportive guidance, and a deep belief in the potential of every student. She meets each oboist where they are—technically, musically, and personally—and helps them grow into confident, expressive musicians. Her nurturing approach fosters not just skill and discipline, but also joy, connection, and lifelong love for the instrument.
Her students have gone on to win top honors, attend elite music programs, and perform with leading ensembles across the country.
Karen lives in Dublin, Ohio, with her husband Bob, a clarinetist, and their family—including their beloved, fluffy dog, Murphy. Their home is filled with music, laughter, and the joy of helping others find their voice through art.
